After only 1 year, my Sony Cybershot DSC-W290 suddenly became extremely sensitive to light and started showing lines through all of the pictures.
When I took a picture of anything remotely bright, and with color, the lines would thicken and turn red.
This was no good, since I just bought the camera a year ago, and really liked it for many reasons. So I called Sony support, and tried troubleshooting the problem with their customer support.
During the call I realized I was out of warranty, only by 15 days, in fact. It is now September at the time I wrote this, and I was under the impression that it was August at the time! Yikes, how did I loose a whole month?
So I told the guy that I was ready to just deal with the fact that my year old $250 dollar camera was shot, and started to segue the conversation toward ending the call. Before the call ended, and surprisingly, he then asked me if I still had my receipt.
After telling him that I did still have my receipt, he kindly gave me a an extension on my warranty so that I could still send it in to get fixed as if it were under warranty.
I have always liked Sony products, and consider them to be built well, not to mention stylishly designed. This situation is the first I can remember having any issues with any of their products that I own. An now I write this blog post to share how much they value their customers.
How rare that is these days, and it means a LOT to me when purchasing something costing hundreds of dollars, so perhaps it will mean that much to you as well.
Thank you Sony!
